Larry Talbot returns from America to his ancestral home in Wales after learning of the death of his brother. While visiting a gypsy camp, a girl is attacked by a gypsy who has transformed into a werewolf.

Larry kills the werewolf but is bitten during the fight. An old gypsy woman tells him that because of this, he is cursed and will become a werewolf at each full moon.
