In s 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, Dr. Victor Frankenstein a brilliant scientist combined his knowledge of natural science with ideas from alchemy masters to imbue inanimate matter with life. He pieced together a creature with various body parts from charnel houses.

The creature learned quickly that humans hate and fear anything they do not understand and so he travelled to the isolation of the Arctic Circle when all he really desired was companionship.
